HD4: Changing out a X axis T-nut
-------------------
You will need:
· A drill or multi head screw driver
· Ph#2 Phillips driver bit
· 5/32 Allen wrench or driver bit
· Loctite
· Some models may require an 11/32 wrench or pliers
1. Using a Ph#2 Phillips remove the four Phillips head 8-32 machine screws from the motor on the gantry leg. Three of these screws will be 1 inch long and one screw will be 2 inches long. [If applicable, hold the nut using the wrench while using the PH#2 driver to remove the screws]
2. Just under the motor is a clip holding the motor wires in place. Take the screw and the clip off so you can slide the motor out.
3. Pull the motor out away from the leg. You will see the coupler that attaches the motor to the threaded rod. Using a 5/32 Allen loosen the set screw that is closest to the motor and pull the motor out of the coupler.
4. Turn the threaded rod until it comes free from the T-nut that is connected to the Xbox. If there are any broken remnants of the T-nut left on the threaded rod take them off as well.
5. Using a Ph#2 Phillips remove the three #6 x ¾” Phillips head sheet metal screws holding the T-nut to the Xbox. There are washers on the screws so take care not to lose them when the screw comes free from the Xbox.
6. Take the new T-nut and remove the spring and the end cap by turning the end cap until it comes free from the body.
7. Take the body of the T-nut and place it into the Xbox lining the slots on the T-nut up with the holes that have been drilled into the T-nut pocket on the Xbox.
8. Once the T-nut is in place you can slide the spring and the end cap back onto the T-nut body.
9. Take the three #6 x ¾” screws with the washers and drive them into holes you lined the T-nut slots up with. Be careful not to over tighten as these parts are plastic and will crack!
10. With the threaded rod connected to the T-nut, take the motor and slide it back into the coupler.
11. Take out the set screw that tightens down on to motor and apply a dab of Loctite to it. Then tighten the set screw down onto the motor. Make sure the set screw is being tightened down onto the flat spot on the shaft coming out of the motor.
12. Slide the motor back up to the Gantry leg and reattach with the four 8-32 machine screws. The one 8-32 x 2” screw needs to go in the bottom left corner. Make sure to apply Loctite to the screws before putting them in.
13. Reattach the wire clip and screw under the motor.
