It may be necessary to create a project that will be wider (X) than it is tall (Y) and it requires the project to be rotated 90 degrees. In this example, we will use a sign that is 14" wide (X) and 6" (Y) tall once machined.
In order to run this project on a Shark SD120 CNC, we must rotate the project and design to fit the machining area of the machine (12 x 25). The Rotate Project.crv file used in this example is available for download at the bottom of this article and requires Vcarve Desktop, Pro, or Aspire version 11.014.
Rotate the Job setup
The first step in rotating the Vcarve project is to adjust the Job setup.
1. Open the Vcarve project file (.crv) you are working on or the Rotate Project.crv example file.
|
|
2. Select Edit, then Job Size and Position from the top left corner of Vcarve. | |
3. Update the Job Size to Width (X) = 6 and Height (Y) = 14. |
|
4. Then select Ok at the bottom.
The job area will update and look like the picture here. |
Rotate the Project
The second step in rotating the Vcarve project is to rotate the design.
1. To select all the vector lines and drawings in a project, right-click with your mouse anywhere in the white job area to bring up the options pictured to the right.
- Hover the cursor over Select, then select "Select All Vectors.
Alternatively, press CTRL and the letter A on your keyboard to Select All. |
|
2. Once the entire project is selected, press the R key on your keyboard to bring up the Rotate function. Rotate can also be found on the left side of Vcarve under "Transform Objects". |
|
3. Enter 90 in the Angle field. - Select Apply, to rotate the entire design 90 degrees. - The design is now rotated 90 degrees. - Select Close to exit out or the Rotate function |
|
4. Select the F10 button on the keyboard to bring up the Align Selected Objects. Alight Select Objects can also be found on the left side of Vcarve under "Transform Objects". |
|
5. Left-click on the center button in Align to Material to center the design on the material in both X and Y. - Once Centered, select Close at the bottom. |
Recalculate the Toolpaths
The final step in rotating the project requires recalculating the toolpaths.
All of the Toolpaths that have been created for the file will be listed under Toolpaths, on the right-hand side of Vcarve.
1. Right-click with your mouse, then select Recalculate, then Recalculate All.
This will recalculate all the toolpaths with the new rotation applied. |
|
The project has now been rotated 90 degrees and the toolpaths recalculated with that rotation. The final step is to save the toolpath and run the project on your CNC machine. |
