The VFD/Inverters in the 2HP spindle kits (20157 / 20004) and the 3HP spindle kit all come pre-programmed and are ready to go right out of the box. With the introduction of the digital interface cable, the main control box will tell the inverter when to power on/off the spindle motor and to operate at the programmed spindle speed. Due to the inverter taking all its commands from the main control box; the Run, Stop, REV, and Speed Control dial are no longer used and will be unresponsive. Once everything is connected, the inverter can be tested using the Tool Holder, Cutting Board, or Trivet projects on our Free Projects page. The inverters are not interchangeable between the 2HP and 3HP spindle kits.
Front Panel
The main display of the VFD inverter will show information depending on what LEDs are ON in the LED display zone. Pressing the Shift >>key will cycle between the different displays outlined below.
Indicator LED | Status | Description |
Power | On | The VFD/inverter is on. |
Rev | On | The motor is in reverse rotation (the ability to reverse the rotation is disabled) |
HZ | On | Displaying set frequency or output frequency |
A | On | Displaying output current |
ROTT | On | Display rated RPMs |
The PRGM, SET, and arrow buttons are used to cycle through, edit, and save the various PD settings for the inverter. Since the inverter comes preprogrammed these will generally be unused unless during troubleshooting.
If the inverter does not have the digital interface cable, a third cable that connects to the front of the main control box, the inverter will have to be operated manually. This means before the file is started, press the Run button and turn the Speed control dial to the desired RPMs, then select Stop at the end of the project.
